4. Who is Responsible for Health and Safety in Schools?

In Community Schools, the Local Authority is ultimately responsible for health and safety within schools as it is the employer. Headteachers and the school management team are responsible for the day to day management of health and safety within their school.

For Voluntary Aided Schools and Foundation Schools, the Governing Body is ultimately responsible for health and safety within its school as it is the employer. Headteachers and the school management team are responsible for the day to day management of health and safety within their school.

For Academies, the Academy Trust is responsible for health and safety as it is the employer. Headteachers and the school management team are responsible for the day to day management of health and safety within their school.
